Chubb Steps Up To The Rio Tinto Challenge

Chubb Australasia has taken part in the ‘Rio Tinto Mine Rescue Challenge’ in Exmouth WA.  The Event which has been running annually for the past five years pits mines against each other in rescue skills competitions to showcase skills and equipment used  in essential mine safety.  14 mines from  the Pilbara region of WA  competed in the event.

Chubb which supplies Holmatro rescue tools, which includes a DPU31PC pump, 4240 Core spreader,  4050  Core cutter, Combi tool, chocks and blocks and sharp edge protection covers, says that it is delighted to be involved again this year.

John Hallam, Director Chubb Products and Consumer, says Chubb fire safety has had a long association with Rio Tinto, providing all 14 sites with essential Holmatro rescue tools.  The event showcases the latest rescue techniques and rescue equipment available from Chubb Fire Safety and Rio Tinto.

“It was great to see the equipment in action and to see how highly trained the teams from the mines are.  It shows how much effort goes into this sort of rescue training and that the keenly honed skills of the teams could be put into action at any time anywhere.”

“Congratulations to the winning team from  Hope Downs they really performed on the day.”

Eddie Coyle, Emergency Management Advisor  from Rio Tinto, says that they are very grateful to Chubb for the supply of the Holmatro rescue equipment but especially to the  Chubb staff who were at the event to lend support.  He said, “Chubb helped out in both technical and practical ways being both fire safety officials and generously volunteering to be casualties too!”
